Project Incubation
The Civic Growth Project Incubation Program supports fellows and young leaders in transforming their community-based policy or advocacy ideas into tangible projects. Selected projects receive mentorship, exposure, and YIP resources to help them grow from concept to impact. By offering 1-on-1 mentorship and guidance with outreach, networking, and hiring, Project Incubation fosters the next generation of community change-makers.
Learning Hubs
YIP is always looking for ways to bring our virtual, nationwide programming directly to communities and local areas. To that end, the PIVOT Center is launching Learning Hubs, which focus on building student-led community chapters. These groups will serve as YIP’s physical home base and help give young people around the world access to the institution to do on-the-ground work in their communities with support and mentorship from YIP leadership. Each Hub will focus on an independent project connected to local issues while also contributing ideas, partnerships, outreach, and multimedia content back to YIP.
Career Center
On YIP’s mission to educate, engage, and empower students, the Institute is always thinking about what students will do after they graduate from our fellowship or staff positions. Empowering students is often about giving them the tools to succeed in the future. We are building a career center, which will be a collection of resources and internship placement organizations for students to continue exploring public policy, innovation, government, and entrepreneurship. We are building a list of organizational partners who will host YIP students for internships and professional development. This initiative will be crucial for developing and maintaining the strength of our alumni network.
History
The Center for Civic Growth's mission stems from work that was being done at the PIVOT Center. The PIVOT Center is a youth-led hub for cross-border policy reform. The Center equips young people—across political systems, identities, and ideologies—with the skills to research, negotiate, publish, and influence real policy. The PIVOT center was recently acquired by YIP in the Fall of 2025.
Formerly known as Policy Insights and Voices of Tomorrow, the Center was originally independent from YIP and was founded by Arthur Hu, Saniya Yamin, and Caleb Kurlantzick. PIVOT came to life in February 2025, when three teenagers from three different states came together to discuss their frustrations with the inability to act on them as young people. Although separated by state lines, they shared the same unsettling feeling—decisions were being made about their futures, and they had no opportunity to weigh in.
They realized that now more than ever, it is vital to get young people involved in policy-making as our leaders age. Every young person has a unique experience, distinct perspectives, and specific problems that they are passionate about addressing. PIVOT works to provide youth with a platform to share their ideas, a space to discuss with peers and community leaders, and a direct connection to legislators. In a world filled with polarization that demonizes opposing opinions, PIVOT is rooted in real-world experiences, providing every youth, regardless of their background, a platform to speak up for themselves without further polarizing our political landscape.
Within eight months, PIVOT built a fellowship, expanded to 300 staff from 28 countries, and created articles and briefs read by 100k+ youth across the world. Furthermore, PIVOT’s founders won first prize in the Bill of Rights Institute’s MyImpact Challenge, a national civic engagement contest with over 400 applicants; hosted a selective international civic summit with members from 28 countries; and collaborated with other civic organizations to drive real change.
