Chris Qian

Chris Qian is a student from Virginia with a strong passion for public policy and government. Alongside YIP, Chris has served as a Fall United States Senate Page and holds leadership in his school's Model UN conference, school newspaper club, and Boy Scout Troop. Chris also founded ReTech for Kids, a nonprofit focused on bridging the digital divide in education by collecting, refurbishing, and redistributing second-hand devices to underserved students. Through YIP, Chris hopes to foster greater civic discourse among youth and deepen his passion for public policy.

Capstone Project

As the global economy becomes increasingly dependent on digital technologies, a fault line has formed between those with digital access and those without, a phenomenon commonly referred to as “the digital divide.” Bridging the divide requires us to dig into the root of the problem: education. This brief explores how the digital divide in education exacerbates preexisting societal disparities and presents specific policy solutions to bridge the divide.
