Estrella Vazquez is a student-athlete at the University of New Orleans with a strong interest in education policy, social justice, and youth advocacy.Estrella plans to pursue a career in civil rights law, using legal advocacy as a tool to challenge inequity and expand access to justice. She believes meaningful change requires both policy reform and community empowerment, and that young leaders should be at the forefront of both.

Protecting Students, Promoting Justice: Addressing the School-to-Prison

Capstone Project

This policy brief proposes the Student Justiceand Support Act, a comprehensive legislative initiative aimed at reducing the school-to-prison pipeline. The bill addresses the disproportionate disciplinary practices that push students, particularly students of color, students with disabilities, and low-income students, out of schools and into the juvenile and criminal justice systems.
