Julia Markut

Julia is a high school student in Chicago, IL with an interest in the intersection between public policy and education. A distinguished fellow during the 2026 Summer Cohort, Julia wrote her capstone on the negative effects of rank-based policy. She is currently structuring a curriculum that will most adequately educate students involved in the GRIP program.

In addition to her contributions to YIP, Julia has engaged in curriculum development in numerous settings—her school’s student-led debate class and writing center, for instance. Her commitment to public service emerged from her summer internships with the IL Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias.
