For patients with IBD, the systems meant to support them move at the pace of paperwork, not the pace of illness, and a practice called step therapy makes that gap measurable in months of preventable harm. Massachusetts has baseline protections, but no enforceable timelines and no standardized criteria, leaving patients without recourse while more than 30 other states have already done better. Reform is specific, proven, and ready, and it only moves when lawmakers hear from the people living with the consequences.
