Development Intern
Nurah is a high school student from Los Angeles, California. She is passionate about international relations, civic engagement, and policy reform, particularly around issues about gender equality and human rights.
Nurah is an Outstanding Capstone awardee at the YIP Fellowship and now serves as a Development Intern. Beyond YIP, she is the founder of the Sahara Rose Project, a non-profit focused on combating Female Genital Mutilation through advocacy and legislative action. Nurah has also worked on the successful campaign of Assemblymember Sade Elhawary and aims to continue her work at the intersection of policy and global justice.
Capstone Project
emale Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a culturally entrenched human rights violation that undermines the autonomy and dignity of women and girls globally. This brief will cover the prevalence of FGM within American borders as well as internationally, evaluate the inconsistency of existing policies, and propose legislative and community driven solutions.
