Preet Shukla is a rising senior at Waukee High School from Waukee, Iowa. Preet joined YIP as a Public Health Analyst and Community Fundraising Coordinator in December 2025 and is now a Public Policy Fellow. Outside of YIP, Preet is on a mission to combat Iowa’s rising cancer rates and is in the process of making a digital triage system in the healthcare system to fight against long hospital emergency/oncology patient wait times! She is also closely working with organizations like High School Democrats of America, as the IA Vice Chair, is a part of the National Expansion Committee, AANIPH Caucus, Dharmic Caucus, Women’s Caucus, First Generation Caucus, Legislative Committee, and the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force, and running as the 2026-2027 National Communications Director. Preet is also interning with Sarah Trone Garriott (IA-03) and is a campaign field intern for the only democratic candidate running for governor in Iowa, Rob Sand! She is the creator of the Iowa Cancer Prevention & Safety Initiative, striving for pivotal change in the 10 mg/L oncological threat threshold to the 5 mg/L danger threshold mark. In response to Iowa’s status as the state with the fastest growing cancer rate in the nation, she is leading a professional team to architect and lobby for the 'Iowa Drink Safe Act.' Her work focuses on bridging the divide between public health and Iowa’s agricultural heritage.
