The abortion conversation has gone back decades; it has always been a challenging topic to address because of how many factors play into having an actual abortion. Some women choose to get an abortion because of rape, age, financial issues, incest, or just not wanting to be mothers. The concept of abortion has always been frowned upon because some people view abortion as murder. Some individuals see better alternatives such as adoption or simply keeping the child. I truly believe abortion is lawful and moral because it is a woman's choice to do what she wants with her body, and adoption is not always an option. 

Abortion is a heavy topic, and not all people see eye to eye on this issue. In my personal opinion, without the mother's body, the fetus would not exist. The women's reproductive system is what grows the baby and keeps the fetus alive. The fetus is codependent on the mother for nine months. Some people say any kids until 18 are also codependent, and you can not just kill them. The issue with this argument is that a fetus in the womb cannot physically live before 23 weeks. Fetuses born at around 23 weeks still suffer severe health complications, and the chances of survival are slim to none.

Verywell Family This proves that a fetus is dependent on its mother for its life for nine months. Kids that have been already born are not physically dependent on their mother for 18 years, rather, they rely on a guardian. Their physical life is not at risk if they do not have a mother. Some mothers even die during childbirth, so the baby does not even have an opportunity to meet their mother. So ultimately, since the mother's job is to keep the fetus alive for nine months, she should be able to choose if she wants to go through with it. A biological man has never nor will ever experience childbirth or being pregnant. Their  job is to be a supporter to the mother of this fetus. Pregnancy can also be highly life-threatening. Around 50,000 women a year face these life-threatening complications, and approximately 700 women die from them.

The rates of new mothers requiring breathing tubes and of treatment for sepsis — a life-threatening inflammatory response to infection that can damage tissues and organs — both increased by 75 percent. And the rate of women needing to be renewed from heart failure rose by 175 percent, to a total of roughly 400." ProPublica Evidently, these complications occur in many women and cause permanent health issues. Because of these extreme risks, women should be able to have a say in whether they would like to proceed with the pregnancy or not. It is their life on the line and nobody else's. 

Adoption can be an alternative to abortion, but it's not always the best choice. The adoption and foster care system is corrupt and needs to be reformed. So many children are being put into unsafe living situations that can lead to homelessness and even death.

This goes to show how horrible the foster care system can indeed be. It's hugely disappointing to see so many kids that have a tragic loss of potential due to a situation they have no control over. Around twenty-thousand kids every year leave the foster care system without finding their forever family. It's horrible to see some kids who have to feel alone in this massive world because they never found a family. Kids in the foster care system are more likely to have mental illness due to many reasons. Some foster kids can feel that they are not good enough to be loved and accepted when they haven't found a family. Kids in the foster care system are also more likely to get raped and sexually assaulted. A John Hopkins University study of a group of foster children in Maryland found that children in foster care are four times more likely to be sexually abused than their peers, not in this setting. Children in group homes are 28 times more likely to be abused. These statistics are horrific as vulnerable children that want a family but instead get abused in their "home." One-third of foster kids have reported sexual assault from a foster parent. The kids in the foster care system are highly impressionable and can be easily manipulated. It's appalling to see these adults use their power for negative things and take advantage of a situation and another human being.

Focusforhealth Not only do children experience sexual assault and rape in the foster homes, but they also experience those events from the caseworkers and other staff supposed to find them a safe home. Not only do children experience these awful events, but they rarely get adopted. Around 400,000 kids are currently in the foster care system, and only approximately 135,000 children get adopted each year. More and more kids come into the system, and fewer kids end up leaving. Because of how awful these statistics are, some women would rather have an abortion than having the risk of going through this. Adoption can be beneficial, but sometimes it's not always the best option, especially if the woman doesn't even want to carry the baby.

I believe that adoption is vital in today's society primarily because of bodily autonomy. Women take risks with their bodies and put their life on the line, so they should decide what should happen to the fetus. The abortion rate would decrease drastically if the community reformed the foster care system. Although the fetus would be getting a chance to live, it would not be a healthy environment. In conclusion, women should have the right to choose what happens to their bodies and the fetus.
