Framing the Narrative: Addressing Harmful Portrayals of Muslim & MENA Communities in Western Media

The Western media landscape which spans across children’s cartoons, Hollywood movies, and T.V. shows, has continued to portray Muslims and populations from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) through narrow and stereotypical lenses. The brief will cover how these pervasive media representations have continued to negatively portray these populations and how they can be combated with proper policy implementations.

Antisemitism in American educational institutions has grown steadily more visible, yet institutional responses have remained inconsistent, underfunded, and structurally inadequate. Existing approaches, including DEI programming and state-level Holocaust education mandates, have failed to produce uniform outcomes, leaving Jewish students exposed to harassment and hostile environments with limited recourse. To meaningfully address the problem, policy must shift from broad, generalized frameworks toward targeted interventions: mandatory and substantive Holocaust and antisemitism education at the secondary level, federal reporting requirements that hold institutions publicly accountable, and digital literacy programming designed to address the specific ways antisemitic content reaches young people today
