She is deeply engaged in civic leadership and community advocacy, serving on the Milpitas Youth Advisory Commission, as a Student Board Representative for Milpitas Unified School District’s Board of Education. Nia has worked on housing justice initiatives through the Save Sunnyhills Organization, organized panels with local legislators, and led student engagement projects to amplify underrepresented voices. This policy brief examines the persistent pay gap between U.S. teachers and similarly educated professionals, with a focus on how it impacts recruitment, retention, and educational equity. Low-income and rural communities face disproportionate challenges as teacher shortages intensify, reducing access to experienced educators.
